Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Le Thi Thu Hang made the statement at a press conference on Thursday.

The US National Security Adviser is expected to meet with several ministerial leaders to discuss on bilateral ties as well as regional and international issues of shared concerns.

Mr. O’Brien’s trip follows a visit to Hanoi on October 29-30 by U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo who had talks with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh.

Pompeo affirmed that the US supports a strong, independent and prosperous Vietnam and expects the Southeast Asian country to play a greater role in the region.

The US commits to sustaining stable relations and cooperation with Vietnam to further advance the bilateral ties in a substantial, trusted and effective manner in order to contributing to security, peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world, said the US Secretary of State.
