U.S. Embassy hosting free events for International Education Week

International Education Week is in its 11th year of promoting educational exchanges, mutual understanding and respect around the world.

International Education Week (IEW) is in its 11th year of promoting educational exchanges, mutual understanding and respect around the world.

IEW, held the third week of November each year, is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education that allows people to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange. First held in 2000, IEW is being celebrated in more than 100 countries worldwide.

“Each year more than 600,000 international students, including over 13,000 from Vietnam, choose to study in the United States,” noted U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Michael W. Michalak at the opening of the U.S. Embassy’s EducationUSA Advising Center, which provides free and unbiased information about studying in the U.S. to the Vietnamese public. “I have worked very hard over the past three years to help form lasting education bonds between Vietnam and the U.S.”

Since 1995, the U.S. Government has provided nearly 1,000 degree and non-degree scholarships in Vietnam, totaling more than $75 million.
