Aircraft checkups

Over the past few days, five U.S. aircrafts of Boeing 737 - 300 and Airbus A320 were forced to land unexpectedly because of various in-flight problems.

Lai Xuan Thanh, Deputy Head of the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV), said the inspection follows the recent cessations of Boeing 737 – 300 and Airbus A320 aircraft in the U.S.

In preparation for aircraft safety checkups, the CAAV has requested its Flight Safety Standards Department to clarify safety requirements for the same airplane models that have been singled out in the United States, Thanh said.

He added, about the current safety situation, “All airlines have been in strict compliance with required maintenance procedures. No unexpected problems have been recorded with Vietnamese aircraft so far.”

He, however, added that the recent problems in the U.S. have drawn attention to the airline industry in all countries.

According to Thanh, Vietnam’s fleet is relatively safe, as it includes no Boeing 737-300, but around 100 Boeing 737-400s.

Most of these planes are between 6 and 7 years old, the oldest around 15 years.
