All of the victims are of Khmer ethnic group, of Phuoc Loc hamlet, O Lam commune, Tri Ton district.
At 10 a.m yesterday, after stumbling across an artillery shell, Chau On, 29, asked Danh Thuong, 25, to join him in dismantling the shell to get scrap metal for sale.
While they were sawing the shell, it suddenly exploded, killing Chau On immediately and severely wounding Thuong who later died in hospital.
Chau Uol, 54, who was near to the scene at the time, was critically injured, too.
The explosion also caused serious damage to a house.
The shell is a 105 mm artillery one, which could have been left there from the war in South Vietnam before 1975, said local authorities.
Previously, some similar cases occurred in the province’s Tri Ton and Tinh Bien districts, causing many casualties, the authorities said.
