Two face prosecution over cross border iPhone smuggling

Vietnamese police have recommended prosecuting two men accused of illegally transporting 117 used iPhones worth more than VND 1 billion (approximately USD 38,300) from China into Vietnam.

Police in Quang Ninh Province have completed their investigation and forwarded the case to the provincial People's Procuracy, recommending that Bui Van Hung, born in 1988, from Haiphong, and Nguyen Quoc Toan, born in 1998, from Quang Ninh Province, be prosecuted on charges of illegally transporting goods across the border.

According to the investigation, the seized evidence consisted of 117 used iPhones with a combined value of more than VND 1 billion (approximately USD 38,300).

Quang Ninh police described the case as one of the most significant uncovered during a recent nationwide campaign targeting smuggling and the illegal cross border transportation of goods.

Authorities said they will continue to strengthen investigations and strictly enforce the law against smuggling and illegal cross border trade, particularly involving products that may pose risks to consumer health and interests.
