Central Vietnam heatwave expected to ease from July 1

The widespread heatwave affecting central Vietnam is expected to end from July 1 as weather conditions become more favourable, the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said.

On June 29, hot weather is forecast from Thanh Hoa to Da Nang and in eastern areas from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak, with temperatures of 35-37 degrees Celsius and isolated areas exceeding 37 degrees.

The heat is expected to ease slightly on June 30, with temperatures ranging from 35-36 degrees, although some areas could still record highs above 36 degrees.

Forecasters warned that actual temperatures outdoors could be 2-4 degrees higher than forecast values, depending on local conditions such as concrete and asphalt surfaces.

At 1 pm on Sunday, temperatures had reached 39 degrees in Con Cuong area in Nghe An Province, 37.4 degrees in Dong Ha Ward in Quang Tri Province and 37.1 degrees in Tam Ky Ward in Danang.

The prolonged hot and dry conditions have increased the risk of forest fires, fires in residential areas due to higher electricity demand and heat-related health problems.

Health experts advised people to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun between 10 am and 4 pm, stay hydrated and avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
