Two killed after truck plunges into ravine in Son La

Two people were killed and another injured after a truck crashed through a roadside barrier and plunged about 20 metres into a ravine in Son La Province early on June 27.

According to Son La Provincial Police, the accident occurred at around 1 am on June 27 as a truck was travelling along National Highway 37 from Bac Yen towards Mai Son. The vehicle veered off the road and plunged down a steep embankment.

Three people were travelling in the truck at the time of the crash, including two men aged 50 and 19 from Phu Tho Province. The identity of the third occupant has not yet been confirmed.

The crash killed two people at the scene, while the surviving occupant was taken to Bac Yen General Hospital for emergency treatment.

Preliminary findings indicate that the driver failed to keep the vehicle in the correct lane, lost control, struck a roadside safety barrier on the left side of the highway and then plunged about 20 metres down the embankment.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident.
