Vietnam Railway Corporation has had to cancel many trains following landslides at a North-South railway route tunnel.

Vietnam Railway Corporation (VNR) has had to cancel many trains following landslides at a North-South railway route tunnel.

The Chi Thanh Rail Tunnel, running through Tuy An District in the southern central province of Phu Yen, experienced two landslides on May 21. A large amount of soil and rocks fell onto the track, causing work to consolidate the tunnel to continue.

VNR said passengers with cancelled train services can contact railway stations for a refund.

Other train services will continue to operate, but passengers will travel 43 kilometres by road between La Hai and Tuy Hoa stations. As many as 3,000 passengers today, May 23, were transferred.

Nguyen Danh Huy, Deputy Minister of Transport, has assured that the repairs were a top priority. If the weather conditions remain favourable, the repair work is expected to be completed within the next two to three days.
