A tourism company in Quang Tri Province has been fined VND300m (USD12,900) after destroying thousands of square metres of production forest and special-use forest lands.

Authorities in Quang Tri Province has fined a local tourism company for destroying thousands of square metres of production forest and special-use forest lands.
Ha Sy Dong, vice chairman of Quang Tri People's Committee signed the decision on August 31.
Song Hien Tourist Service Trading Company was fined VND197m (USD8,500) for destroying 1,355 square metres of production forest and special-use forest. It has to pay VND113.6m in an additional fine, equivalent to an excavator which was used in the deforestation. The company was asked to restore the forest land in 30 days.
Quang Tri People's Committee fined Nguyen The Thuong and Le Van Thuy, who are the company's driver and guard respectively, VND5m (USD215) each for destroying the forest land. They also had to pay VND1.6 in an additional fine which is equivalent to a saw they used.
On March 24, 2016, Quang Tri People's Committee granted Song Hien Tourist Service Trading Company the business licence for ecotourism and nature conservation. The ground-breaking ceremony of Ru Linh Eco-tourism Project was held on June 27, 2017 but the company only started construction in February 2020.
After an inspection, the authorities announced that Song Hien Company hadn't had or submitted any detailed planning, environmental impact report or gained a building permit for the construction.
