Chairman of Ea Ktur Commune People's Committee Nguyen Kim May has confirmed that the tragic accident occurred at noon on Monday at the Viet Duc 4.
"The three children, all aged 10, were going home from school at 11.30 am when they decided to turn to the lake for a swim," the official said. "It was not until another child saw the three dying in the lake that he rushed to seek help. However, the three had died before they could be taken out of the lake."
Two 11-year-old girls also drowned the same lunchtime after falling into a pond in the northern province of Hoa Binh.
Local authorities have warned schools and parents about the recent rise in drownings among children as summer arrives.
