About 2,000 of the 4,500 new recruits voluntarily registered for service.
Among the volunteers, 65 of them are civil servants and 71 others are from ethnic minority groups.
The amended Law on Military Duty takes effect this year. It has a number of amendments, such as only one recruitment session in February or March is to take place each year, instead of two; and an increased eligibility age for military service among those who attend higher education institutions from 18 to 27.
