Workers at Linh Trung Export Processing Zone
According to the HEPZA, before the recent Covid-19 outbreak in Hai Duong Province, around 65-70% out of the municipal export processing zones and industrial parks’ total number of 276,000 workers had decided to stay in the city for Tet. However, since the pandemic outbreak in many localities in the country, the rate has risen to 75%.
HEPZA said that the agency planned to organise activities to celebrate Tet for the workforce. But mass gatherings would be suspended for Covid-19 prevention. Instead, workers will be given gifts at their accommodation.
Under the HEPZA’s request, those who return home for Tet have to conform to their localities’ health declaration regulations.
The HEPZA reported that the Covid-19 pandemic has caused 1,560 businesses in HCM City to cut their payroll by almost 15,000. Of them, 133 had slashed their Tet bonuses.
