Customs officials in collaboration with local police at Noi Bai International Airport on October 27 caught a Vietnamese woman attempting to illegally smuggle 6kg of rhino horns valued at VND4 billion into Vietnam.
The horns were discovered hidden in the hand-luggage of Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tu, 29, who was flying from Bangkok to Hanoi.
Tu admitted she was hired by a third-party to transport the rhino horns from Bangkok to Hanoi.
The import of rhino horns are prohibited under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species and under Vietnam law.
The case is still pending further investigation.
