Search ends for two swept out to sea off Son Tra

Authorities in Danang City have ended an eight-day search for two people still missing after four people were swept into the sea by large waves at Mui Nghe on the Son Tra Peninsula.

Doan Van Tinh, head of the Son Tra Border Guard Station, said on August 16 that the search had ended after days of operations failed to locate the two victims.

Earlier on the morning of August 8, a group of four, including three 24-year-old women and a 30-year-old man, walked to Mui Nghe to take photos and swim when they were swept away by large waves.

Rescuers and local fishermen saved two members of the group, while the other two remained missing.

Tinh said search teams had spent several days and nights at sea without finding the two missing people. Although the coordinated search has ended, the Son Tra Border Guard Station has asked fishing boat operators to remain alert and report any sightings.
Le Hong Nghia, head of the SOS Quang Nam Emergency Rescue Team, said his group was continuing to help the families search at sea at their request.

The team deployed a speedboat and sought additional support to search towards Cu Lao Cham and Hon Chao on August 16, where the missing people could have drifted. No further information had been reported.
