The tourism industry in Binh Thuan is among the hardest-hit by Covid-19 outbreak. 70% of the employees in this industry were temporarily laid off or lost their jobs. Some firms offered help like giving VND1m (USD43) to VND2m support a month or paying social insurance while the employees being unemployed.

Most tourism firms agreed that they must focus on domestic tourists for the time being and started lowering fees to get more visitors. Hotel service charges are reduced by an average of 50%. Some places lowered prices by 80%.

"All resorts in Binh Thuan have been affected. We have launched the discount programmes hoping that it will attract more customers so that we can pay employees' wages and maintaining businesses through this time," said Pham Thi Phuong, director of Champa Resort.

In the first quarter, the tourism industry in Binh Thuan incurred a loss of nearly VND1.1trn (USD47m). The province welcomed over 1.3 million visitors in the first four months and earned VND3.6trn in revenues, a decrease of 26.11% compared to the same period last year.
