Under the local authorities’ proposal, the CAV needs to work out a plan on developing into an international airport that can serve five million passengers per year by 2030.

At the meeting, the provincial people’s committee mentioned the necessity of upgrading the airport’s cargo terminal as well as expanding areas for aircraft parking areas and supporting facilities.
The province has been co-operating with the ACV and concerned agencies to mobilise the state budget for building a new runway at the airport. Meanwhile, the current runway of the airport will be turned into a taxiway in line with the Ministry of Transport’s approval in 2019.
Le Tri Thanh, Chairman of Quang Nam Province, said that the province has asked the ACV to call both foreign and local investors to participate in the Chu Lai Airport development project.
Chu Lai Airport has favourable conditions to become an international airport according to Thanh.
