The prime minister has requested ministries, agencies and localities to actively prepare for Storm Nida which is forecast to affect the northern region of Vietnam from tonight.
Nida entered the East Sea on Sunday night and is forecast to be moving towards Hong Kong’s shore with wind speed of up to 120 km per hour and reach landfall in southern China. It is the second storm to hit the East Sea since early this year.
According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorology Forecasting, the storm will hit Vietnam’s northern region with heavy rain from the night of August 2. It is expected to weaken to a depression in the following 24-48 hours.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has requested the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to instruct the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorology Forecasting to closely follow the storm’s development to provide forecasts.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has been asked to co-operate with coastal localities to supervise ships at sea, particularly off-shore fishing boats. The ministry also needs to instruct localities to ensure dyke safety.
The PM ordered the National Committee on Search and Rescue and the Ministry of Defence to be ready for search and rescue missions and evacuations.
According to the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Mirinae, the first typhoon of this year caused serious damage in many localities in the northern region. It killed three people and left 21 injured.
More than 44,000 trees in the northern localities were uprooted, including nearly 700 trees in Hanoi, and 25,000 home had their roofs blown off.
