Construction begins on a new house for Dao Thi Hue in Bac Giang Province on November 7
Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony of her new house held on November 7 in Dong Lo Village, Hiep Hoa District, Dao Thi Hue, 41, shared that so far she has received nearly VND600 million (USD26,086) from the public.
"I want to send my sincere thanks to all the kind donors who shared their sympathy and sent their donations to us," she said. "I will use part of the donations to build a new house to replace my old one which has badly deteriorated," she said. "The local authorities are helping us to build a 70-square-metre house worth VND150 million."Chairman of the Hiep Hoa District Red Cross Society, Nguyen Van Trung, said that local authorities were very moved to see Hue and her children receiving lots of support and donations from the public.
"Since her story was shared on Dantri Online Newspaper, Hue received a lot of support from the public," Trung said.
Dao Thi Hue has raised her two children on her own after her divorce. Her eldest daughter Dao Minh Anh, 13, has been struggling with leukaemia since 2015. The girl has had treatment at the National Institute of Haematology & Blood Transfusion in Hanoi for six years. During that time, Hue and her daughter had to live on charity meals at the hospital.
While taking care of her daughter at the hospital, the mother worked at the hospital canteen and washed other patients’ clothes to earn some extra money to cover her daughter’s treatment.
However, because of the family’s financial difficulties, Hue now can’t take her daughter to hospital again. Her daughter’s condition was worsening and doctors said that she could face death if untreated.
In September last year, her nine-year-old son Dao Quang Do was also diagnosed with thalassemia after suffering from high fever and fainting.

Le Van Dan, chairman of Dong Lo Commune, called on local residents to support Hue’s family. But the assistance remained modest.
