PM Phuc said he will lead a high-level delegation to visit Thailand from August 17-19 at the invitation of his Thai counterpart Prayut Chan-o-cha, during which both sides will discuss measures to foster the strategic partnership.
The bilateral ties have advanced in various fields, including politics, security and defense, economy, trade and investment. Thailand is the largest ASEAN trade partner with the two-way trade volume reaching US$12.5 billion last year and the 10th biggest investor in Vietnam.
As Vietnam posted a trade deficit of US$5 billion, the Government chief expects both sides will take measures to balance the trade ties by facilitating import of Vietnamese products and raise the trade volume to US$20 billion by 2020.
PM Phuc expressed hope both countries would sustain tourism growth momentum as around 800,000 Thai visited Vietnam while 200,000 Vietnamese visited Thailand last year.
He took toe occasion to thank Thailand for creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese community to live and work in the country.
For his part, the President of the Thai National Legislative Assembly said his current visit to Vietnam aims to further enhance the traditional and cooperative relationship with Vietnam, including the legislative domain.
The top legislator of Thailand expressed his belief that the future roads connecting the two countries would give a strong boost to the bilateral tourism cooperation.
