Staff at a Covid-19 checkpoint in Hanoi's Thach That District said on August 26 that they have dealt with many drivers who illegally transported passengers to some provinces including Dien Bien, Son La, and Hoa Binh during the on-going social distancing period.

One of the cases was a car driven by Dang Van Dat who was transporting two passengers to Son La Province on August 26. All these people failed to show their travel permits.

"The driver said that he transported the two passengers to Son La with a fee of VND1.2 million (USD52) each," a staff at the checkpoint, Pham Van Luyen said. "We have issued fines to the driver and his passengers before transferring the cases to local authorities."

Chairman of Yen Binh Commune in Thach That District, Nguyen Giap Dan, said that they gave the two passengers some rice and instant noodles before telling them to return to their places in Hanoi and follow social distancing rules.

The official added that on August 19, they also found three cars illegally transporting 15 passengers to Dien Bien Province. The passengers said that they had to pay VND1.9 million (USD83) each for the trip.

Hanoi is applying social distancing regulations until September 6 and has banned all public transportation services including passenger bus, taxi, and motorbike taxi.
