The Chi Thanh Rail Tunnel running through Tuy An District in the southern central province of Phu Yen experienced a landslide at around 10:15 am, causing 30 cubic metres of soil and rocks to fall onto the track. Work to consolidate the tunnel was already underway when the landslide happened.

The tunnel is being repaired following the landslides
Another landslide occurred at the tunnel at 2 pm the same day.
Le Quang Vinh, director of Phu Khanh Railway Operation Branch, said the unit had mobilised dozens of workers and equipment to clear the soil and rocks.
According to Vinh, more landslides will continue, so there are question marks over when the tunnel will reopen. Phu Khanh Railway Operation Branch has prepared vehicles to transport passengers through the tunnel if necessary.
The Bai Gio Rail Tunnel, located on the North-South railway route between Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa provinces, also suffered from severe landslides in April.
It took engineers up to 10 days to finish repairs to the tunnel.
