Nguyen Phi Hung, a safety specialist at Noi Bai Airport stated that, due to increased efforts in raising awareness of aviation safety among residents living near the airport, incidents of straw burning, kite flying, and laser pointing have decreased annually.
Hung cited the Civil Aviation Law of Vietnam, stating that using laser lights in airports or their surrounding areas, which affects aircraft during takeoff, landing, or movement, can result in a fine of between VND30-40 million (USD1,209-1,612).
Straw burning and laser pointing can significantly impair pilots' visibility. Even a small lapse in concentration from the pilot could lead to an emergency landing or even a serious accident, endangering the lives of hundreds of people.
Meanwhile, activities such as kite flying, releasing sky lanterns, or unauthorized construction near airports pose collision risks for aircraft.
