The incident happened at about 4 am near Chien Thang Port on Thanh Lan Island, when powerful gusts overturned the raft about 300 metres offshore.
A man on board escaped by jumping into the sea, while his wife, 37, and their three-year-old son were trapped inside the cabin.
Rescue forces, including border guards, police and military personnel, were deployed immediately. The bodies were recovered at about 9 am.
Authorities arranged for the bodies to be transported to Van Don before being taken to the family’s hometown for burial. Officials and residents provided financial support of VND 44 million (about USD1,670) to the family.
