The accident took place on Highway 20 at 1 pm at Madagui Town.
According to the Madagui Traffic Safety Committee, Nguyen Trong Duong, born in 1972, was driving 11 passengers from HCM City to Da Lat when he suddenly crashed into another car of Nguyen Minh Hieu, born in 1985, heading on opposite direction. Hieu was also carrying eight people from one family.
"We were napping when we heard a loud bang. People ran out to see two damaged cars stuck with each other. Passengers on the cars screamed out for help," a witness said.
Nine people injured after two cars collided
The locals then used everything they could to pry open the vehicles and took the injured out.Both cars were thrown 50 metres by the impact. Duong's car had its door broken and the passengers were thrown out. The front of Hieu's car was badly damaged while crashing onto the pavement.
Nine people were heavily injured in which three are in critical condition with injuries including traumatic brain injury, broken femur and fractured spine. A total of 17 people were admitted to Da Huoai Medical Centre then transferred to Dinh Quan Hospital in Dong Nai Province.
Police are investigating the accident.
