The torrential rain that hit the central province Nghe An Province, killing five and leaving seven injured, has also left about VND600 (USD28 million) in damage in its wake, destroying crops and infrastructure.

12 houses were either buried by mud or swept away by water, while 83 homes were destroyed. About 5,783 houses were flooded and 22 badly-needed school rooms were damaged by water and landslides.
And estimated 16,900 hectares of crops and 2,075 hectares of fruit orchards were submerged in the flood, along with 10,760 cattle and 2,176 hectares of aqua-products which were destroyed by the rains.
Also, 15,622 cubic metres of rock and soil caused serious damage to thousands of cubic metres of the reservoir of a hydrpower plant. Transport infrastructure also took a heavy blow, with 46.98 km of roads ruined and 19 bridges destroyed or completely swept away.
On September 9, the head of Nghe An Committee of Flood and Storm Control said the the estimated damage from the flood up until now is more than VND600 billion, and they are still waiting on estimates on further damage.
The immediate danger seems to have subsided, with rain subsiding and the tides lowering.
The Nghe An People's Committee is directing the local Department of Health, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and Department of Natural Resources and Environment to carry out the damage mitigation and cleaning activities, such as water purification and providing medicine to prevent any water born epidemics in the area.
