Vietnam on Tuesday morning received 494,400 doses of AstraZeneca Vaccine from the COVAX Facility, according to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology.

This delivery brings the total number of vaccine doses Vietnam has received to over 19 million, including over 9.17 million from COVAX.

The Ministry of Health has approved six Covid-19 vaccines for emergency use in Vietnam, including AstraZeneca, Sputnik V, Pfizer/BioNTech, Sinopharm, and Janssen. So far the country has received over 11.5 million AstraZeneca doses, over five million Moderna, 1.5 million Sinopharm, 746,000 Pfizer, and 12,000 Sputnik V doses.

To date, Vietnam has administered nearly 10 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines. More than 1 million people have received two full shots.

According to the Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long, more supplies of Covid-19 vaccines will be imported in the fourth quarter.

Speaking at an online meeting about Covid-19 prevention on August 2, Long asked local authorities to speed up vaccination procedures. The vaccination progress at locked-down areas must be faster.

The number of vaccines that have arrived in Vietnam in the third quarter may not be much but a large number will arrive in the final quarter. Vietnam will receive 47-50 million doses of Pfizer, he said.
