A thick layer of frost and snow has covered the peak of Mount Fansipan in Lao Cai Province as the temperature dropped to minus 7 degrees.

A thick layer of frost and snow has covered the peak of Mount Fansipan in Lao Cai Province as the temperature dropped to minus 7 degrees on December 18 and 19.

The temperature on December 18 dropped to minus 7 degrees at night. It rose to minus four degrees at 7 am. Many tourists said the snow made them think of a European winter.

Snow Paradise, a winter festival will be held for Fansipan visitors from December 23 to January 2 to celebrate Christmas and the New Year.

According to the Centre for National Hydrometeorology Forecast, Vietnam is having the strongest cold spell so far this winter. Temperatures in the mountainous areas are from five to nine degrees.
