Tran Dang Truong in hospital
12-year-old Tran Dang Truong is being treated at Nghe An Obstetrics and Paediatrics Hospital. His mother, Trang Thi Quang, tried talking to him but cried when she saw that his eyes kept rolling back. Truong's father, Tran Dang Ngoc, had a traffic accident long ago and since then, his right hand became weak.Truong had tetanus after accidentally stepping on a thorn while picking apples in the garden. When he was admitted to the hospital, his head and neck were stiff. Doctors said he had multi-organ failures and needed to be admitted to a central hospital in Hanoi as his condition was worsening.
Truong then had dialysis but his kidney is unable to function properly. He also loses consciousness and is often incapacitated.
"We borrowed millions of VND. The treatment is still costly so we decided to put our house up for sale but we can't find any customer for the past six months," Quang said.
After seven months in Hanoi, Truong's family has incurred hundreds of millions of VND in debts so they asked to transfer Truong to Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital. Tran Thi Trang, Truong's sister, had dropped out from 10th grade to work as a dishwasher to support the family.
Tran Hoai Giang from the social office at Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital said, "We helped the family pay a part of the bill but the treatment is really costly and long-term."
"If only I can sell anything to save him, I'll do it. I just want him to wake up and give us some hope," Quang said.
