MoH kicks off month-long campaign against AIDS

The Ministry of Health on Monday kicked off the month-long campaign 2010 against HIV/AIDS under the theme of “Universal accession and human rights.”

The Ministry of Health (MoH) on Monday kicked off the month-long campaign 2010 against HIV/AIDS under the theme of “Universal accession and human rights.”

The annual event marked 20 years since Vietnam launched the fight campaign against the epidemic.

For better prevention and control of HIV/AIDS, heads of ministries, sectors, and localities need to improve their own awareness of HIV/AIDS and renew ways of disease prevention, said Deputy PM Truong Vinh Trong at the launching ceremony of the campaign.

Public accession to HIV/AIDS treatment must be widened. Families and social organizations should expand assistance to HIV/AIDS cases without discrimination, he said.

Communities and local authorities should create more chances for each and every citizen to further engage in HIV/AIDS prevention. Meanwhile, HIV/AIDS patients should be braver to overcome complex to become useful for the society.

The Deputy PM also took the occasion to call for more practical commitments from international organizations and non-governmental organizations to Vietnam’s combat against the disease.

It is estimated that alive HIV-infected cases and AIDS patients in Vietnam have amounted to 164,000 and 37,000 respectively. Some 45,000 cases have died of HIV/AIDS, reported the MoH.

This year’s campaign will be deployed throughout the country from November 10 to December 10.
