At least 80 people were killed when rebels derailed a train packed with sleeping passengers in eastern India Friday -- the single deadliest attack in the 40-year leftist insurgency.
"The death toll has risen to 80 and we are still recovering more bodies," West Bengal police inspector general Surajit Kar Purakayastha told AFP at the site.
More than 17 hours after 13 carriages of the Kolkata to Mumbai express train careened off the tracks, rescue workers were still struggling to recover dead passengers trapped inside the crushed compartments.
