All of the homes are located in Tra Bui Commune, Bac Tra My District, and now face high risk of landslides and a rise in water levels at the power plant.

The project management board No. 3, under Electricity of Vietnam, will provide VND845.5 million (USD40,238) in assistance.

Since September 3, the area of the Song Tranh 2 Hydro-power Plant has experienced more than 10 earthquakes, the strongest recorded in the early morning on September 17, damaging many surrounding houses.

Many local people are hesitant to go back to the mountains to farm for fear of more quakes, even though local authorities have been encouraging them to continue their work to avoid future hardships. A number of them set up a temporary house beside their damaged homes out of worry of further earthquakes.

Nguyen Hong Phuong, Deputy Director of the Institute of Geophysics Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Centre, said two of the leading experts, from Poland and India, will visit Vietnam in early November to study the recent tectonic activity in the area of Song Tranh 2.
