This is the sixth time Hoi An has been flooded this year. The rain started on the night of November 10 and quickly flooded the town. The water level in Hoi An River was 1.47m and 1.72m at 7 am on November 11.
Students in Hoi An have been allowed to stay home because of the flood.
In Tuy An District, Phu Yen Province, about 11,000 houses were submerged. Bui Van Thanh, chairman of Tuy An People's Committee said they had sent employees to use boats to provide support to people in flooded areas.
The floodwater is receding and the hydropower discharge in Dong Xuan District also decreased on November 11.
Tran Ly, director of Ba Ha River Hydropower JSC, said at 9 am the flood discharge was 4,500 cubic metres per second. They asked to increase the flood discharge to 4,900-5,900 cubic metres per second since there was still rain in the upstream.
Le Ngoc Tinh, chairman of Phu Hoa District People's Committee, said the road and electricity systems had been controlled. As the floodwater receded, they are cleaning up the streets. Even if the flood discharge increase, residential areas will not be affected.
"We have asked local people to not travel across Ba River because hydropower discharge," Tinh said.
Hoa Thang Commune authorities are searching for the missing man who lost balance and was swept away by the flood on November 10.
