On Monday, the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion launched the 9th Red Journey, the country's largest-scale blood donation campaign, with the participation of 300 delegates. The programme is expected to receive over 1,500 units of blood which will then be transported to Hanoi for screening before being sent to Southwestern localities.
So far this year, hospitals across the country have supplied more than 20,000 units of blood for Can Tho and the Southwestern region.
“The institute has worked with Cho Ray Hospital, the Central Hue Hospital and the Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion for the region,” Thanh added.
The institute will also conduct more blood donation programmes in the north and south for the assistance.
Thanh noted that it is important to hasten the purchase of blood bags and biological products at the Haematology - Blood Transfusion Hospital in Can Tho.
Over the past 10 years, the Red Journey has attracted millions of participants and collected nearly 700,000 units of blood. Up to 58 cities and provinces have hosted the event.
