According to Tran Quang Nang, head of the National Centre for Hydrometeorology Forecasting’s Weather Forecast Department, at around 7 pm on Thursday, the tropical depression was around 50 kilometres from the northern province of Quang Ninh’s Mong Cai City with the strongest wind power of 40-50 kilometres per hour.

By 7 pm on Friday, the tropical depression would move north into the Gulf of Tonkin, some 50 kilometres from Bach Long Vy Island.
Nang added that the tropical depression would bring about strong wind in the Gulf of Tonkin, posing dangers for boats and ships.
Northern localities would see rains in some days to come with the heavy rains concentrating on July 23-24. Meanwhile, localities from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue would have rain on July 23-25.
Torrential rains have been forecasted to happen in the northern mountainous provinces of Hoa Binh and Son La with a rainfall of 200 mm. Warnings of flash floods have been issued.
