
The visit is made at the invitation of Prime Minister Le Minh Hung. Fico was welcomed at Noi Bai International Airport by senior Vietnamese officials, including representatives from the Government Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He is accompanied by a high level delegation including Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Robert Kalinak, Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Denisa Sakova, Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar, Agriculture Minister Richard Takac, Finance Minister Ladislav Kamenicky and Culture Minister Martina Simkovicova.
Fico, who has previously visited Vietnam in 2008 and 2016, is seen as a key figure in promoting bilateral relations.
According to Vietnamese officials, the visit comes shortly after Vietnam completed the restructuring of its state apparatus following the 14th National Party Congress, and as the two countries mark more than 75 years of diplomatic relations since 1950.
Talks are expected to focus on upgrading bilateral ties, strengthening political trust and expanding cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including trade, investment, defence, science and technology, energy, culture, tourism, education and digital transformation.
Both sides will also discuss coordination in multilateral frameworks and regional and international issues of shared concern, with particular attention to ASEAN, EU cooperation.
