Between May 9-12, the provinces of Lang Son, Quang Ninh, Ha Giang, Bac Kan, Dien Bien, Bac Giang, Thai Nguyen and Cao Bang experienced torrential rain.
The serious flooding in Lang Son
The rain has caused flooding in some localities, killing one in Lang Son and one in Bac Kan. Meanwhile three others in Thai Binh died in a lightning strike on May 12.
In Cao Bang, one person remained missing after being swept away by flooding.
The rain has damaged 231 houses with Lang Son being hardest hit with 169 houses damaged.
Around 2,203 hectares of crops have been inundated.
The torrential rain also resulted in landslides in some roads in Dien Bien, Bac Giang and Bac Kan.
Lang Son Province suffered estimated losses of roughly VND390 billion because of rain on May 9-10. Up to 4,962 hectares of local crops have been submerged.
