As Tet nears, Hai Thuong Lan Ong Street has become more crowded with people coming to buy decorative items for their houses.

Lanterns, ribbons, parallel sentences, fake bonsai trees or branches, in all shapes and sizes are the main decorative items that have been displayed at all the shops on the street.

Huynh Chi Minh, 35, said that he had spent the whole afternoon looking for the most suitable items to decorate his house. "I come here to buy new items every year during this time," Minh said. "I want to make our house look nice and fresh to welcome a new lunar year."

Nguyen Thi Hanh went with a group of friends to the street just to enjoy the Tet atmosphere and the bustling scenes.

"We didn't intend to shop much," she said. "In fact, we just wanted to watch the colorful street and take some nice photos."

Nguyen Thi Loc, owner of a shop said demand was much lower this year compared to previous years.

"We’ve received fewer orders," he said. "Many of our regular customers shared that they lost their family members during the recent Covid-19 outbreak so they didn't want to decorate their houses this year."
