Under the proposal submitted to the government, vice chairman of the municipal people’s committee Phan Thi Thang said that the money would be used to cover food and rent expenses to help poor families, particularly migrants during the city’s social distancing.

HCM City People's Committee Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong offers gifts to a poor household
Around 1.58 million poor households are expected to benefit from the aid. Each person will be supported with VND50,000 per day and 15 kilos of rice per month. Each household will be provided with VND1.5 million for rent every month.
The city’s proposal followed Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s instructions to ensure living conditions for people affected by Covid-19 during the social distancing. They need to be assisted to stay in the city.
Meanwhile, about VND160 billion (USD7 million) has been raised from businesses during a programme launched by the Ministry of Information and Communications on August 17 to support people hit by Covid-19 in Ho Chi Minh City.
The programme targets poor people and those facing difficulties due to the pandemic in the city. Based on the list of beneficiaries made by the municipal Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Vietnam Post and Viettel Post will coordinate with local authorities to deliver gifts of necessities worth VND300,000 each.
More than 533,000 people are expected to benefit from the programme.
