According to the HCM City Export Processing and Industrial Zones Authority (HEPZA), as many as 1,355 out of 1,412 firms in 17 export processing and industrial zones have resumed operation. Over 230,000 or 80 percent of workers here have returned to work, with some reporting almost entirely returned workforces.

With 94 percent of workers being fully vaccinated against Covid-19, local companies have committed to effectively ensuring work and pandemic prevention at the same time. Most of the firms have stopped the stay-at-work model and even accepted workers who have close contact with Covid-19 patients, which have helped them attract more workers back. Some are planning to expand production to serve the rising orders at the year-end period, HEPZA reported.

Despite the bad impact of the latest Covid-19 outbreak, export processing and industrial zones in HCM City still attracted USD 437 million in investment capital, which was 80 percent of the set target.

A representative of a firm with over 1,000 workers in Tan Thuan Export Processing and Industrial Zones said that his company had resumed work without problems and could possibly achieve 90% of its normal production capacity by the end of this year.
