The Traffic Safety Board technology had been piloted before Tet and proved to be effective.

The board is the result from the collaboration of HCM City Department of Transport, Radio Voice of Vietnam's VOV Traffic Channel and FPT Technology Solution Company.

The local authorities hope the new technology would be the first step for the development of an intelligent transport system in HCM City.

Through the pilot programme, 14 boards were installed on the main routes including Le Trong Tan, Le Van Sy, Phan Dinh Phung and the route to Tan Son Nhat Airport.

After the pilot programme end in April, the authorities will consider the results to decide whether to expand the project or not.

The information about traffic flow, which is provided by VOV Traffic Channel, will be displayed by colours and the streets' names on the board. Green means that the street's traffic flow is light while yellow means the traffic flow is heavy and red is the signal of a traffic jam.

Based on the information, road users can easily choose the best route for themselves and reduce the hours spent in traffic jams.
