The move was decided by the municipal Police Department to verify the case following a video clip made by reporters from Tien Phong (Vanguard) newspaper and went viral after being uploaded to social media last weekend.

Several traffic policemen in Hanoi allegedly exhorted bribes from drivers (photo taken from the clip)
According to the 7-minute clip, the policemen collected the cash from traffic violators and then let them go without having to sign in any receipt for the fine. This means that the money was just pocketed.
Dao Vinh Thang, head of the Hanoi traffic police board, said that the board has worked with Tien Phong Newspaper on the clip and will continue to investigate the case. If true, violators will be strictly punished, Thang noted.
Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung has ordered urgent clarification of what happened.
