Nguyen Trai Street is 2.1 kilometres in length and between 19 - 23 metres wide and has five lanes in each direction. At present, there are two lanes for cars close to the median strip, two lanes for both cars and motorbikes, and one lane for motorbikes and bikes on each side. All the lanes are divided by road markers and signboards.

The Hanoi Transport Department on July 29 announced that they would pilot the use of barriers to separate car lanes on Nguyen Trai Street beginning from August 6 to curb constant traffic jams on the street.

The pilot programme will be applied for a month until September 6.
