Visitors at the Temple of Literature on the fifth day of the new year
The department has also requested districts to stop organising festivals after the Tet holiday.
Le Xuan Kieu, Director of the Culture - Science Activity Centre of the Temple of Literature, said the suspension would affect site revenues as well as travel firms that had booked tours but disease prevention was the top priority.
Kieu added that the number of tourists to the site during this year’s Tet holiday dropped by 60% on-year.
According to the Thang Long-Hanoi Heritage Conservation Centre, the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, Co Loa Ancient Citadel and Ngoc Son Temple have been shut down.
Meanwhile, Hoan Kiem pedestrianised area at weekends will be shut for 20 days.
Hanoi has set up hotlines and two field hospitals for the epidemic prevention and control.
