Hanoi has suspended all street beer stalls and temporary markets amid the ongoing Covid-19 spread, the municipal people's committee reported on Tuesday.

The move came after the city’s decision to ban gatherings of over 10 people, except for offices, schools, hospitals and places for election purposes. The city has also halted food and beverage services and convenience stores and apartments for rent in areas around hospitals with Covid-19 infections.

The closure will be imposed until the further report of local authorities.

Since April 27, Vietnam has confirmed 528 locally-infected Covid-19 cases in 26 cities and provinces, including up to 125 cases on Monday. This represented the country’s high record of a single day since the pandemic appeared in Vietnam.

Hanoi is among the localities hardest hit by the new Covid-19 wave with two big hospitals namely the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases and K Hospital being locked down for Covid-19 prevention.

Earlier, Hanoi shut non-essential services, including karaoke parlours, bars and cafes.

Hanoi Party Secretary Dinh Tien Dung said that Covid-19 was still under control in Hanoi, so the city had not yet imposed social distancing or lockdown regulations at present. He advised people to stay indoors as much as possible to help the Covid-19 fight.

According to Hanoi authorities, only areas that are related to Covid-19 patients are locked down. The city is trying its best to deal with the Covid-19 outbreak, he emphasised.
