During an urgent meeting about Covid-19 prevention on April 26, Chairman of HCM City People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong announced that the firework display on April 30 would be cancelled. He also asked related agencies to report and make sure that all preventive regulations must be followed strictly during the holiday.
"The firework display will be cancelled. Other activities will be held under preventive regulations," he said.
HCM City authorities had earlier planned four firework displays for the Reunification Day Holiday and May Day Holiday period.
Also on April 26, Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism confirmed that there will not be any firework display.
Hanoi only held a 15-minute firework display for the Tet Holiday at Thong Nhat Park this year.
