On October 14, local authorities worked with a unit of Hanoi Urban Environment Company (URENCO) to remove the clothes from a site within the Pham Hung-Le Duc Tho connecting road project.

A leader of Tu Liem Ward’s investment and infrastructure project management board said an individual had collected the clothes over several years for charity donations to people in disadvantaged areas. After sorting out items suitable for reuse and donating them, the person left the remaining clothes at the site.
Tu Liem Ward Police have questioned people connected with the incident, the official said.
The ward’s project management unit will work with relevant agencies to ensure the site is fully cleared and prevent similar environmental sanitation problems at construction projects in the area, the official added.
The urban environment company estimates that the abandoned clothes weigh about 300 tonnes. They had accumulated over a long period and become soaked with water.
Crews are working urgently to clear the site and maintain environmental hygiene. All the discarded clothes will be transported to the Nam Son solid waste treatment complex.
