Phong Nha-Ke Bang to offer paragliding tours from November

Visitors to Phong Nha-Ke Bang in Quang Tri Province could soon explore the UNESCO World Heritage site from the air, with paragliding tours planned to begin on November 24.

The provincial People's Committee has approved in principle a proposal by Jungle Boss Co. Ltd to introduce paragliding activities in the Phong Nha area, according to company director Le Luu Dung.

The service, the first proposed aerial tourism experience of its kind in the heritage area, is scheduled to operate from November 24, 2026, to December 30, 2027.

Jungle Boss will be responsible for organising and financing the activities.

Known for its limestone mountains, pristine forests, rivers and valleys, Phong Nha-Ke Bang has long attracted visitors for cave exploration, trekking and river excursions.

Paragliding would offer a different perspective, allowing tourists to view the area's limestone formations, green valleys and winding rivers from above.

Dung said the company was finalising its operating plan, including take-off and landing sites, designated flight areas and schedules, while seeking the necessary permits from relevant authorities.

The company plans to launch the service with five paragliders operating daily, with each flight lasting approximately 20-30 minutes.

According to the company's estimates, the service could accommodate more than 1,000 visitors a day.

The activity could also provide an alternative for tourists unable to undertake physically demanding trekking or extended forest excursions.

The initiative is intended to support Quang Tri Culture and Tourism Week 2026 and National Tourism Year 2027.

Authorities hope the new attraction will diversify tourism offerings, encourage longer stays and increase visitor spending.

The provincial government has required Jungle Boss to meet safety standards covering qualified personnel, equipment, rescue services, fire prevention, insurance and emergency response procedures.

The company must also obtain approval for the use of land and airspace, ensuring that operations do not affect national defence, security, aviation activities or the heritage site's landscape and environment.

The Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park Management Board and Phong Nha Commune authorities have been asked to coordinate with the company on suitable operating locations.

The provincial Military Command will guide the company through procedures to obtain flight permission from the Operations Department under the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army.
