The local authorities in Tan Hiep Commune confirmed the deaths on the morning of October 14.
According to initial reports, the father and son were among a group of four people who went fishing for fish and snails near the boundary between Tan Hiep and Thanh Dong communes on October 13.
At about noon, as the group was pulling in their nets, rain began to fall and lightning struck the two men. The other two, who were standing about 20 metres away, were left dazed.
After recovering, they rushed to check on the father and son and found both dead, with burns on their bodies and clothing.
The An Giang Hydrometeorological Station had previously warned of unstable weather conditions. Thunderstorm clouds have continued to bring showers to several parts of the province in recent days.
Authorities have urged residents to remain alert and take precautions against hazardous weather, including thunderstorms, strong gusts and lightning, particularly when working outdoors, to protect their lives.
