Haiphong to spend VND1.1trn on Covid-19 fight

Hai Phong People's Committee has approved a halt to all festival and will spend over VND1.1trn (USD47m) to fight Covid-19 outbreak.

Hai Phong People's Committee has approved a halt to all festival and will spend over VND1.1trn (USD47m) to fight Covid-19 outbreak during a meeting on March 12.

Many measures to ensure socio-economic stability and cut spending were discussed. Over VND126bn (USD5.4m) will be used to buy equipment and protective gear during the outbreak. The city will also give supports to people who have to be quarantined at centres VND65,000 per person per day.

If a residential area is locked down, the people will be given VND45,000 (USD2) per person per day. State employees that monitor the traffic and stay at the checking points will be given VND65,000 per person per day. Over VND1.1trn will be allocated for the Covid-19 fight in case there are 1,000 people tested positive to the virus.

The 2020 Red Flamboyant Flower Festival, Cat Ba Fishing Festival and Do Son Tourism Festival will all be cancelled. The budget used to organise the festivals, a part of the budget reserve and 10% of the annual budget for 2020 will be used instead on virus prevention measures.
