Danang steps up drowning warnings for children

Authorities in Danang City have stepped up drowning prevention measures at the city’s beaches as large numbers of residents and tourists flock to the coast during the summer holiday season.

Popular beaches such as My Khe, Pham Van Dong and Nguyen Tat Thanh have become increasingly crowded in recent weeks, especially in the afternoons and on weekends, with many families bringing young children for swimming and recreation.

Rescue teams said concerns over child safety had risen as some children entered the water without life jackets or close adult supervision.

Lifeguards have intensified patrols along the coastline, installed floating safety barriers and warning flags in areas with strong currents, and increased loudspeaker announcements to remind visitors of safety rules.

Rescuers said several incidents involving children being swept away by waves had been detected and handled in time.

Parents are urged to ensure children wear life jackets, swim only in designated safe zones and remain under close supervision at all times.

Warning signs have also been installed in areas vulnerable to rip currents and rough sea conditions.

Alongside rescue operations, authorities are expanding public awareness campaigns on drowning prevention and water safety skills for children during the summer period.
